Amritsar is the spiritual Capital of Punjab .The city was earlier known in name of founder of this city Guru Ram Dasas, as  Ramdaspur , later on it come to be known as Amritsar , after the sacred pond -Amrit Sarovar or the pool of nectar 

Amritsar town is set around the Golden Temple,  & is major commercial hub of the northern India. It is the most sacred place for Sikhs. 

Golden Temple

Large hearted people known for their hard work , patriotic, actively participated in the struggle for independences  , the massacre at Jallianwala Bagh , it self speaks their  participation, which  was the turning point in the History of India's struggle for freedom .

Amritsar is not only known for the flourishing textile Industry , milk processing Plant , electric goods , for auto parts , furniture  but also a centre for Punjabi cuisine & each eating house has its own specialty which can not be matched. 

Its pickles, murabbas (Indian jams) and papads and warian and sweetmeats are exported to far off places, right into Punjabi Diaspora abroad.

Places of Interest  

Golden temple 

All that glitter here , for certain is gold . The temple complex situated in the heart of Amritsar is the most sacred place for Sikhs. the holy waters of the surrounding sarovar (pool) mirror the gold of the temple making it an enriching experience . This Majestic temple complex was  founded by the fourth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Ram Das, who had initially constructed a pool here. This complex has four doors in four directions , symbolizing equality among all & welcoming every one.    

The holy Book of the Sikh the "Guru Granth Sahib"is enshrines in this Golden temple, kept covered under the jeweled canopy at the Darbar Sahib during the day time & returned ceremoniously to Akal takht  .It also houses the Central sikh Museum , exhibiting painting coins , manuscripts , arms & other rare artifacts of Sikh history .After having bath in the sacred pond (a symbolic cleansing of the soul) Guru ka langar ( free meal )is served to the visitors irrespective of race, religion, or gender, It is a place of both stupendous beauty and sublime peacefulness

Jallianwala Bagh.

Just adjacent to the Golden Temple is the Jallianwala  Bagh. It is a major landmark in the history of India struggle for independence. Here  at this site that hundreds of people were shot down by General Dyer.  This brutal massacre of over 2000 innocent unarmed people, on the orders of a British General on April 13, 1919 highlights the atrocities performed by the British on Indians. the martyr's memorial built in the shape of an eternal flame of liberty has become a pilgrim site for every Indian .

Durgiana Temple

This temple is situated outside the Lohagarh gate of the old city, is dedicated to Goddess Durga, and is a centre of pilgrimage for devout Hindus. It resembles to Golden temple . 

Ram Bagh Garden, 

The small garden with a lively statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the Lion of Punjab named after the founder of this city, Guru Ram Das, with a  museum displaying weapons dating back to Mughals & portraits of various dynasties of Punjab situated nearby near by garden, near to 

Ram Tirath

The Ram Tirath Tirath is a holy place located 16 Km West of Amritsar on the Amritsar-Chogawan road, where Lord Valmiki composed Ramayana. The temple site is also the place of where mother Sita spent some time and gave birth of Luv and Kush, sons of Sri Rama. Lakhs of pilgrims from all over world visit the place every year for a holy dip in the sarovar during the week-long fair from November 26 at this ancient temple connected with Luv and Kush, sons of lord Rama as well as Maharishi Valmiki.

Wagah Border

On the International Boarder between India and Pakistan, the immaculately dressed Indian soldiers of Boarder security force & Pakistani Rangers in salwar -Kameez can be seen "Beating the Retreat" ceremony daily in the evening , Soldiers from both countries march in perfect drill, going through the steps of bringing down their respective national flags. The pomp and pageantry of the Beating Retreat and the Change of Guard within handshaking distance of the Indian and Pakistani forces makes a most charming spectacle for the visitors form the Indians as well Pakistani side .

The best time to visit :-  The best time to visit Amritsar is between October and March.
