Chamba is one of India 's hill resorts, located on the right bank of the river Ravi between Dhauladhar and Zanskar ranges south of the inner Himalayas. Chamba is  at an altitude of over 915 m above sea level & known for its splendid architecture and as the base for numerous excursions.

This sprawling hill town, is the a district headquarters.  

Chamba attractions include the Chowgan  which remain crowded and is is the heart and hub centre of all activities in town . Chamba has a number of temples,the Laxminarayan temple, Bhuri Singh museum that houses a collection of ancient 

Chamba artifacts and manuscripts. and and many other Palaces and stylized buildings, such as rang mahal . This old palace is an interesting mix of colonial and saracenic architectural styles.Nature has blessed this small town with innumerable gifts. 


Places of Interest  
The Chowgan
Chamba's wide concourse is the hub of much of the towns activity and also serves as its promenade.
Laxmi Narayan Temple Complex
With six main Shikhara style temples and several smaller shrines, this is renowned for its finely executed classical forms.
Hari Rai Temple
This is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and dates back to the 11th Century.
Other Temples
The profusion of temples in Chamba and their craftsmanship is remarkable. Some important shrines are Champavati, Vijreshwari, Sui Mata and Chamunda Devi.
This old palace is an interesting mix of colonial and saracenic architectural styles.
Akhand Chandi Palace
Now a college, this imposing building once housed Chamba's ruling family. Much of the original craftsmanship can still be seen.
Bhuri Singh Museum
Named after Raja Bhuri Singh of Chamba, this is a treasure house of Chamba's rich past. The exhibits include copper plates, murals, doorways, costumes, paintings and stone carvings.
St. Andrew's Church: Over a century old, this is a charming dressed stone structure with lancet windows.

Excursions form Chamba

  • Bharmaur , 
  • Manimahesh 
  • Bandal Valley 
are the major excursion from this place, the lake of Manimahesh is 35 km from Bharmaur.The deep blue waters of the lake, rest at the feet of the Manimahesh Kailash Peak - which is one of the mythological abodes of Lord Shiva.
Bharmaur is surrounded by alpine pastures, a paradise, an ethereal vision or a poet's inspiration, a treasure of infinite beauty , full of colour, unlimited  trek routes for adventure the highest point on the trek is the Padri Gali at 3049 m. 

Camp there capture the daunting beauty of Chamba valley. Really  it is a mindblowing experience .

The route begins along the right bank of the river Ravi, goes past Pukhri, down to the Siyul stream, then rises to Salooni on the Prithvi Jor ridge to finally arrive above the valley. 

Climate: In winter, the temperature can drop to freezing point when heavy woollens are required. the summer temperature are mild and light woollens/cottons are recommended.

The best time to visit :-  April to early July and again from September to November
