Dharamasala is one of India 's most popular hill resorts, nestles on the high slopes in the upper ranges of Kangra valley on snow-clad Dhauladhar mountains of great Himalayas.

Dharamasala can be divided into two major areas, namely Lower Dharamshala and Upper Dharamshala . The Lower Dharamshala is a busy commercial area with the government offices, the bazaar and the bus stand,  

Upper Dharamshala is bordered by the tiny dwellings of Forsythganj and McLeodganj.   Dharamshala is a travellers paradise It is a major tourist destination through out the year.

Here the celebrated Dalai Lama has settled in exile is a spectacular Tibetan township.Blessed with marvellous landscapes, lofty snow peaks, deep gorges, lush green valleys, gushing rivers, enchanting mountain lakes, flower-adorned meadows, beautiful temples and striking monasteries, it feels like you have stepped back in time

Kangra Art Museum 
This treasure trove of the Kangra Valley arts, crafts and rich past, displays artifacts that date back to the 5th century. It includes a gallery of Kangra's famous miniature painting and a representative collection of sculptures, pottery and anthropological items. Shamianas and dresses used by local royalty, old carved doors, jails, lintels and pandals are also on display Coins, jewelry and manuscripts are included. A section houses the work of contemporary artists, sculptures and photographers. The library is just below this.
War Memorial
At entry point to Dharamsala , landscaped lawns and a web of narrow paths fill a pine grove where a monuments has been raised to commemorate the post independence war heroes of Himachal Pradesh is a very beautiful place to visit .
Kunal Pathari 
3Km from kotwali Bazzar that leads to leads to rock temple .
Triund is on the foothills of Dhauladhar range and is 17 km from Dharamshala and a 9 km trek from McLeodganj passing through Dharamkot and Rakkar at a height of 2,827 mtrs. The breathtaking views of the mountains and the valleys make Triund an ideal spot. A ropeway is available from Dharamshala to Triund .


Tsuglagkhang (Dalai Lama's Temple )
Tsuglagkhang is the most important Buddhist monument in McLeodganj. It enshrines three magnificient images, including an enormous gilt statue of Shakyamuni, statues of Valokitesvara and Padamasambhava, or Guru Rinpoche, the Indian scholar who introduced Buddhism and Tantric teachings to Tibet in the 8th century.
Church Of St. John : In The Wilderness
Fifteen minutes' walk from McLeod Gunj, the Anglican church lies in the forest near Forsyth Gunj. This neo-Gothic stone church was built in 1852 and has some fine Belgian stained-glass windows.
Dal Lake  
About three kilometers from McLeod Gunj and next to the Tibetan Children's Village, this small lake is brownish in colour and not nearly as impressive as the name and reputation suggest
Chinmaya Tapovan 
10Km from Dharamasala on the banks of rivulet Bindu Saras , is a ashram complex estabilised by the late Swami Chinmayanada . The complex includes 9 m high image of Lord Hanuman , a magnificent Lord Rama temple , a meditation hall a school , health & recreation centre.


Summer in Dharamasala  ranges from March to May, with temperatures ranging from a maximum of 33C and a minimum of 15C. Winter here lasts from October to February, with temperatures rising to a maximum of 8C and a low of 0C.

The best time to visit :-  The best time to visit Dharamsala is between April to mid-July and mid-September to the end of October, which is the peak season.

The convenient Railhead is at  95 Km at Pathankot on Broad Gauge line.
